The anniversary of 100 years since the death of Johann Strauss and the resultant worldwide "Strauss mania" were reason enough to arrange this work for classical woodwind quintet and include it in this repertoire.
After Strauss had great success with his operettas he decided to take a chance with opera. The result was the premiere of the "Knight Pasman" in the Vienna State Opera in 1892 to a relatively unreceptive audience.
This could be one reason why the work was more or less forgotten and is seldomly performed today with the exception of some of the work's highlights such as the "Csardas". In this edition the part for solo violin has been transcribed for the five wind instruments, according to the technical capabilities of each instrument. Experience with numerous performances of the piece has resulted in minor changes and simplifications.
