His entire life, Joseph Strauss lived in the shadow of his elder brother Johann. Althought he never intended to become a musician, his mother forced him to study violin, conducting and counterpoint. He was only to substitute for his brother, but later was acknowledged as a true "Strauss" and created his own works. There are few original compositions for the arrangement flute, violoncello and guitar from this musical epoch. That is why this Viennese orchestra waltz op. 263 was arranged for this trio instrumentation.
It was important to retain the typical attributes of Johann Strauß’ orchestra waltzes. Particular care was taken to maintain the facility, transparency, and charm of the music as well as the soft linear construction of the melodies resulting from the parallel movement of the third and sixth. The part of the guitar contains the fingering by the editor and is enclosed at the more difficult technical passages. Because of the playful character of this music, the present opus is also playable by less professional musicians.
