Johann Strauss, the son, was master of the musical dance forms which existed in his day. Only a few original compositions for the arrangement flute, violoncello and guitar of this musical genre exist. This fact coupled with the 100th anniversary of the composer's death were reason and challenge enough, to arrange the Viennese orchestra waltz op. 354 for this trio instrumentation. It was important to retain the typical attributes of Johann Strauss’ orchestra waltzes.
Particular care was taken to maintain the facility, transparency, and charm of the music as well as the soft linear construction of the melodies resulting from the parallel movement of the third and sixth. The part of the guitar contains the fingering by the editor and is enclosed at the more difficult technical passages. Because of the playful character of this music, the present opus is also playable by less professional musicians.
