This piece is one of the two piano concerts played by Mozart in 1790 on the occasion of the coronation of Kaiser Leopold II in Frankfurt am Main. It is therefore referred to as the "Second" Coronation Concert. Mozart held this piece in relatively high regard.
This arrangement by Wolgang Kiess challenges trained flutists in both a musical and a technical sense. Kiess was very careful to balance the need to simplify the work with the need to remain true to the original piece while mainting both parts. The phrasing follows the original piece; articulations were only added to the legato runs of the piano part and are meant only as suggestions or hints to the musician.
